Eye of Heaven

”EYE OF HEAVEN” MEMORIAL PAVILION: REMEMBERING THE TRAGEDY AND INSPIRING LITERATURE

On that fateful day in November 1989, the world lost 23 bright and promising souls in a tragic accident in Himare, Albania. Among the victims were students of Tirana Agricultural University, doctors, and pilots. The cause of the accident was attributed to technical defects, unsuitable atmospheric conditions, lack of helicopter training, and coordination. To honor the memory of those who perished, a new architectural marvel has risen in the heart of the Artificial Lake Park. Known as The Eye of Heaven, this stunning monument serves as a medium between a memorial and a pavilion, aiming to become one of the most cherished landmarks of the park.
The philosophy behind the conception of this architectural masterpiece lies in the transparent relationship between the spaces, flowing naturally from the outside to the inside and vice versa. The central inspiration space serves as the compositional center of the object, where visitors can filter through the surrounding area and engage in various social and cultural activities in the realm of poetry. As a symbol of connection between two worlds, the object metaphorically expresses the coldness of wounds through the use of sharp corten steel, while the 23 vertical metal panels represent letters and poetry. The serenity and infinity of the object are reflected in the use of reflective materials, offering a surreal angle of inspiration that merges the boundaries of paradise and earth. The reflection of the sky through the human scale and reflective surface gives an approach that is both real and surreal, creating a unique experience that visitors can cherish and remember. The materials, light, and nature combine to offer different moments of relaxation throughout the year, adapting to the harmony of the park without disrupting it.
