Park Gate

Park Gate, winner of the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2020, is one of Albania’s most significant modern architectural projects since the 1990s. Designed between 2013–2014, it was a bold and challenging undertaking, strategically located at Tirana’s eastern entrance on Elbasan Street.

More than just a residential and service building, Park Gate was conceived as an “urban sculpture”—a symbol of Tirana’s evolving identity and its embrace of contemporary architecture. Positioned at the entrance to the Grand Park of Tirana, the building’s form and façade were carefully shaped to respond to its unique context.
The structure rises in two interwoven volumes of 7 and 13 stories, forming a dramatic 18-meter-high, 20-meter-wide “window” that opens the building to the park and city. The lower volume aligns with neighboring buildings to respect urban codes, while the taller section stays within regulatory height limits, adding grandeur and presence.
Sculpted curved forms give the building elegance and define three public spaces that serve the community. The façade, clad in aluminum, integrates seamlessly with window openings, creating a rhythmic and vertical expression. A bold color palette, especially the use of red—green’s complementary color—harmonizes beautifully with the surrounding park in spring and autumn.
